The Chief of Medical Service will report directly to the Chief of Staff for the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System. The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System includes the Medical Center in Biloxi, MS and four Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Mobile, AL; Eglin, FL; Panama City, FL; and Pensacola, FL. The primary location for this position will be Biloxi, MS; however, the incumbent may be required to travel to the CBOCs when needed to accommodate workload. Duties include but not limited to:
Functions as a member of the senior leadership team.
Responsible for clinical oversight of the acute unit, intensive care unit, emergency department, outpatient specialty care, and several administrative staff members.
Coordinates clinical and support services to meet the needs of the patients served and clinicians providing the care.
Must possess the ability to coordinate and integrate programs into a comprehensive package of services to meet the needs of veterans by establishing policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure continuous comprehensive services.
Responsible for actively participating in VHA Performance Improvement and Measurement initiatives.
Oversee, develop and manage both inpatient and outpatient care services across the health care system.
Develop and monitor quality improvement measures to ensure compliance with Joint Commission and all other regulatory requirements and standards.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 8:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position required a full range of physical activities including lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulder, use of fingers and hands, walking, standing, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, and emotional/mental stability.
In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:
Basic Requirements :
Must to a U.S. Citizen. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
Must be proficient in written and spoken English. (Physician appointed to direct patient care position must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d)).
Must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: 1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted. 2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. 3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or District of Columbia as qualifying for the full or unrestricted license.
