BIOMEDICAL EQUIPMENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST

The incumbent serves as a Biomedical Engineering Technician assigned to the Biomedical Engineering Section, VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System, Biloxi, Mississippi.
The incumbent is responsible for the comprehensive technical support of highly sophisticated biomedical instrumentation at this consolidated medical center and affiliated outpatient clinics located at Pensacola and Panama City, Florida and Mobile, Alabama.
The incumbent also provides technical support to devices in the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service.
Incumbent performs duties of broad range, scope, and complexity to analyze, design, modify, install, plan, evaluate, repair, test, calibrate, overhaul, and correct any system deficiencies or malfunctions on all medical instrumentation and interrelated sub-system assemblies.
The sub system and assemblies can be as complex as the systems of which they are an integral part.
It is imperative that the incumbent be completely knowledgeable of the theory of operation, overall design, and maintenance procedures (including preventive maintenance).
This includes, but is not limited to the CT scanners, vascular procedures x-ray, cardiac cath laboratory, laboratory instrumentation, computerized sterilizers, all electrophysiology instruments (networked digital telemetry, etc.
), surgery (computerized anesthesia apparatus, etc.
), Life support instruments (computerized ventilators, etc.
), ultrasound imaging, networked audiology instruments, Ophthalmology instruments (lasers, etc.
) and all associated computers and software.
Incumbent is required to be knowledgeable in Microsoft, UNIX, and proprietary networks, along with installation and administration.
Incumbent provides technical expertise to assist other medical center personnel in the application and operation of sophisticated medical equipment systems.
Incumbent also provides assistance to equipment users in the purchase of new instruments, designing of new systems and the modification of medical systems to meet special needs.
The incumbent writes instructional material and conducts training sessions in electrical safety and equipment operation and maintenance combined with methods of testing, calibrating and operation for all applicable station personnel.
The incumbent works closely with engineering and clinical personnel on solving unique medical system problems or situations.
Incumbent works closely with the Biomedical Engineering Program Manager/Director (BPD) and other technicians to correct PM program data such as location, frequency, schedule and pertinent information about the equipment Provides recommendation to the BPD as to prescribed frequency and classification of equipment under the PM program and researches PM procedures when none are provided by the manufacturer's literature.
The incumbent plans and accomplishes complete projects and directly supervises outside source contractors to ensure contract compliance, as well as those dictated by JCAHO, CAP, NFPA, OSHA, and VA.
The incumbent writes technical reports on projects, Special investigations, or studies for submittal to the BPD, Chief Information Officer, or other investigative committees.
Frequently, these technical reports, etc.
, are further submitted for management review.
Incumbent provides overview of assigned service contracts on some medical equipment.
Such overview includes a review of specifications, criteria, and work performed and field service reports.
The incumbent will prov1de reports to the BPD on problems encountered with service contractors or parts supplied by these contractors.
The incumbent is responsible for developing, monitoring and administering medical equipment contracts assigned.
The incumbent will research and write specifications for equipment contracts requiring service, preventive maintenance and inspections of a variety of medical center equipment.
The incumbent will monitor the performance of the contract to assure that services are provided as required.
When deemed necessary, the incumbent will provide knowledge and assistance in developmental work on complex medical systems following existing procedures and adopting new precedents.

, Biloxi, Mobile Outpatient Clinic, Alabama; Joint Ambulatory Care Clinic, Pensacola, FL; Eglin Outpatient clinic, Florida ; and Panama City Outpatient Clinics , Florida).

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
