This position serves as a senior-level Biomedical Equipment Support (BME) Specialist for the Biomcd Section located within Engineering under the Facilities Management umbrella.
This BME Specialist will handle network connectivity for highly complex medical systems, which include, but are not limited to picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) cardiology management systems (MUSE), imaging, laboratory equipment, and other patient information systems required for medical patient care at this VA Health Care System.
The position's duties revolve around the active application of clinical engineering principles to complex computer based systems that require research, design, development, interface, implementation, and maintenance.
o The incumbent's primary duties will revolve around network connectivity for all medical devices at this medical center, which specifically includes the very complex PACS and MUSE systems.
Secondary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to maintenance of other highly complex medical equipment, such as the CT scanner, MRI, special procedure rooms, cardiac catheterization lab, radiology/fluoroscopy rooms, scintillation cameras, general radiographic rooms, mobile x-ray and c-arms, diagnostic ultrasound, dialysis machines, anesthesia machines, medication administration, ophthalmic systems, and/or physiological monitoring systems.
The incumbent is responsible for the technical support of hospital and VISN-wide networked medical systems and databases.
This support includes pre-purchase evaluation, technical training, utilization, installation, maintenance, repair, modification, life expectancy, and replacement.
These systems include state of the art, highly sophisticated biomedical instrumentation, digital imaging systems, and state of the art PACS.
He/she serves as consultant to the clinical and administrative staff on technical principles and clinical applications.
Through this support the incumbent's position is critical to the delivery of high quality patient care.
