The Materials Handler performs a full range of warehouse functions. Responsible for storage and space utilization for a specific commodity or equipment group in accordance with agency regulations. ? May serve as senior handler at a small warehouse or satellite facility. Independently plans maximum space utilization and protection of materials by consolidating and relocating materials. Handles storage for high value items. Determines sequence for loading materials; organizes incoming shipments for maximum space utilization, safety considerations and damage protection. Operates large warehouse vehicles such as cargo trucks, state trucks, and jumbo tugs. Operates large material moving equipment and vehicles inside warehouse.
Operates forklifts and related vehicles in holding areas on unpaved, unimproved or difficult terrain. Operates a large shredding/grinding machine. Serves on a team of materials handlers involved in special projects such as conversion to automated warehouse or relocations of a major equipment group. Ensures safe receipt, storage, and movement of hazardous and toxic materials and substances such as certain types of ammunition, explosives, chemicals, or radioactive materials in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.
Work Schedule:? 7:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. Monday through Friday.

The VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (VAGCVHCS) is a multi-divisional health care system based in Biloxi, Mississippi spanning the Gulf Coast to include the following Community Based Outpatient Clinics in Mobile, AL, Pensacola, Ft. Walton Beach, and Panama City, Florida.

Qualifications & Evaluations
Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of Material Handler duties, such as material receiving, storing, and issuing; storage space lay out, warehouse inventory, operation of machinery. Hazardous and infectious waste handling, etc.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( ).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to do the job of a Materials Handler without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements:
1. Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order).
2. Knowledge of Materials receiving, storage, and issuing.
3. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (Other Than Blueprints)
4. Dexterity and Safety

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
