MEDICAL RECORDS TECHNICIAN (INPATIENT CODER)

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of medical coding processes, procedures, regulations, guidelines, and principles to complete routine and non-routine medical record examination and coding tasks; knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, anatomy, physiology, and disease/operation processes to code both in-patient complicated medical records with the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes; experience and logical thought process of medical procedures to properly examine records to extract pertinent data regarding symptoms, diagnostic and therapeutic procedure, medication, laboratory tests, radiology, treatment plans, and discharge instructions. Successfully completed a graduate degree directly related to the work of the position. NOTE:

You must submit a copy of your transcripts. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS:
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in- grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-08 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE:
Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of medical coding processes, procedures, regulations, guidelines, and principles to complete routine and non-routine medical record examination and coding tasks. 2. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, medical and surgical procedures, and medical terminology, including accepted medical abbreviations to perform the full scope of inpatient coding, including inpatient discharges, surgical cases, diagnostic studies and procedures, and inpatient professional services encounters. 3. Knowledge of pharmacology, laboratory tests, and radiological procedures. 4. Skill in examining and extracting written and numerical data from medical documentation, to draw conclusions based on factual documentary evidence to apply appropriate codes and identify documentation inconsistencies. 5. Ability to utilize medical computer software programs to abstract, analyze, and/or evaluate clinical documentation and enter/edit diagnosis and procedure codes. 6. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, problems, conclusions, and coding guidance to individuals and groups at a variety of levels. PART-TIME OR UNPAID

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
